January 2025 · Durban Film Office
The Durban FilmMart wrapped its most successful edition yet, with a record-breaking 40+ African film and television projects pitched directly to an audience of international distributors, broadcasters and financiers.
Record Participation
Filmmakers from over a dozen African countries took part in this year's pitching sessions, reflecting the FilmMart's growing reputation as the continent's premier co-production marketplace. Projects ranged from feature documentaries to high-concept genre films, many with Durban and KwaZulu-Natal as key production locations.
Building Cross-Border Partnerships
A central focus of this year's market was strengthening cross-border co-production partnerships between South African production houses and international financiers, with several development deals announced during the closing ceremony.
Supporting Local Talent
The Durban Film Office continues to play a key role in supporting local producers through the FilmMart process — from project selection support to logistical assistance for international delegates filming or scouting in Durban during the market.
