The Durban Film Office is proud to announce that applications are now open for its 2025 Development Programme cycle. These programmes form the cornerstone of the DFO's mandate to grow a sustainable, locally-rooted film industry in Durban and the wider eThekwini region.
This year's intake covers three core funding streams: the Development Grant Fund (up to R250,000 for feature fiction or documentary development), the Micro-Budget Grant Fund (R350,000 per project for emerging filmmakers), and Festivals & Markets Support (up to R30,000 to attend international festivals and markets).
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to South African citizens and permanent residents based in the eThekwini Municipality, with priority given to first-time and previously disadvantaged filmmakers. Applicants must submit a completed application form, a project synopsis, a detailed budget breakdown and a production timeline.
Key Dates
Applications close on 30 April 2025. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a pitching session in May, with final award decisions communicated by June 2025.
